Glossary of Terminology and Materials
Adobe:
Adobe is the manufacturer of software primarily for the graphics industry. Almost all major design firms use the Adobe Creative Suite (CS) in their everyday practices.
Flash:
Flash is a component of Creative Suite, formerly owned by Macromedia. Flash is a vector-based graphics program used
to create animations. ActionScript3, a programming language, is integrated with Flash to create interactive media, such as games.
Illustrator:
A component of Creative Suite used primarily for vector-based graphics creation.
InDesign:
A component of Creative Suite used primarily for multi-page layouts
Ink:
Used to refer to ink applied via pigma pen, micron pen, or brush and india ink
Photoshop:
A component of Creative Suite used primarily for raster-based graphics. Despite the name, Photoshop is used for
more than photo-editing. Many digital artists use it to draw directly on the computer via mouse or Wacom pen.
Sculpey:
Sculpey is an oven-baked polymer clay.
Wacom:
The manufacturer of digital drawing tablets. Using a wireless, pressure-sensitive pen, a Wacom artist enables an
artist to draw in a program such as Photoshop.
